Speed and reliability can save lives and deliver good news—and healthy babies.

- Dr. Thomas Shieh

The Background:

For many businesses, fast internet connectivity is a good to have or a small fiscal concern. But for Dr. Thomas Shieh, the ability to be contacted at a moment’s notice can prevent a lot of grief for an expecting mother. To support Dr. Shieh, digital applications and hardware are necessary to move massive amounts of information. This data must be delivered quickly and reliably to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.

The Problem:

Dr. Shieh needed a network that was reliable and would hold strong connectivity, even on the farthest areas of the island. He needed to build an infrastructure that would support a large amount of data being shared across the island.

The Solution:

With the assistance of GTA, Dr. Shieh was able to build an infrastructure that supported strong WiFi connectivity. This was tackled by constructing access points to ensure stable WiFi connections in every room of the center’s concrete building.

“When specialists off-island travel to Guam, they can access their medical records back home, no matter how far they are. This can only be achieved with a reliable infrastructure supporting our internet connections,” Shieh says. “Everything is digital now, which enables online registrations instead of paper-based forms. I can travel to communities on island and register bone marrow donors easily. That’s how efficient digital technology has changed our way of reaching out to people.”  - Dr. Thomas Shieh
